What Kinds Of Games Are Sport
A popular discussion amongst my sports minded buddies, is exactly what types of games are really sports. Or for that matter, when is a sport a game, and when is a game a sport. This conversation usually starts up with my squash friends. It’s a game I’m pretty active in at the local level, and many of us that play it will agree that it’s a very physically demanding game. Another thing we often agree on is how crazy it is that one of the most demanding sports on the planet doesn’t deserve a spot in the Olympics. Which inevitably leads to a discussion of what types of activities are really a sport. I mean, is online bingo a sport? How about golf? How about car racing?
What about curling? I have to chuckle about this one, as my wifes a big curling fan, and I am not. Well, this past Olympics, the Canadian team had a pregnant women on the team and they managed to win a silver medal. They actually came very close to winning the gold. Now this totally boggles my mind. In whose definition of sport, would a pregnant woman be able to win an Olympic silver medal? It’s enough to make me start reading bingo reviews and consider a career in bingo promotions. Not that I have a problem with pregnant staying physically active, but were talking about the Olympics here, and the very best of the best.
