Paintball is a very popular sport in the U.S. and around the world. In 1982 the first paintball field was opened for business in upstate New York. A year later a $14,000 cash prize was awarded to the winning team in the first National Survival Game championship. Since then a variety of paintball leagues have arisen and many of them hold their own series of tournaments every year.

More than a dozen paintball leagues exist in North America alone. Some of them are professional or semi-professional while others cater to amateur players. Some of the leagues are regional while others are not. Lists of paintball leagues are available online and if you are interested in joining one you should research which league may be best suited for your particular skill level and location, and contact them for details on joining.
