How to Shop For the Perfect Skateboard

Whether you intend to buy a skateboard as a gift or for personal use, knowing how to pick the right one is important. However, selecting the best skateboard can be tough especially if you are unfamiliar with proper selection process.  Though shopping for a skateboard may not seem to be a big deal, it may appear so to a first time buyer. With the wide range of skateboard selections available in the market today, zeroing in on what particular model don’t appear that easy.

Like when buying a workout machine, there are certain things that you have to carefully evaluate and thoroughly assess to ensure that you will end up with a skateboard that suits you the best.

Before anything else, you have to decide whether you want to buy a pre-assembled skateboard or you want to assemble one on your own. If you like putting things together, then opt for a skateboard that you have to assemble yourself. Meanwhile, those who are lazy to this can opt to buy the pre-assembled variety.

You also have to get the size and dimension of your skateboard right, however, if this is your first time to buy it then this can get a little tricky. To help you find the skateboard appropriate for you, doing a little research online can go a long way. You can also ask friends who have skateboards to help you in choosing how big your skateboard should be. At first, you might end up buying either a skateboard that is too small or too big, that’s alright since it is really impossible to get the size of the skateboard right the first time. Just be sure that when you buy a new skateboard again you are already certain as to dimensions you want it to have.

Other things you should take note of when buying a skateboard is the brand, the wheels, decks, material and overall construction.

Skateboarding Just Never Goes Away

I remember being and kid, and my brother being into skateboarding in a big way.  He was always the more athletic and adventurous of our brood, so it’s not surprising he took up the sport of skateboarding.  I always thought it was  a new sport when he started doing it, but turns out that’s not quite true.  My brother was skating in the mid seventies, which I guess kind of gives my age away.  What I didn’t realize, was that skateboarding was invented in the 1950s, peaked in the early sixties, and eventually died out around 1965.  Many considered it a trend whose time had passed, but they were wrong.

By the mid 1970′s new technology increased the quality of skateboards and their wheels and all of a sudden skateboarding was a cool thing again.  Just ask my brother.  By the late seventies though, skateboarding once again fell out of favor.  It was deemed by many to be too dangerous a sport for kids to be playing.  Obviously, skateboarding regained in popularity during the eighties, and continues to be popular today.  That’s not to say there has been a steady increase in skateboarding since then, as it has continued to go through a number of rolller coaster type rides since.  But the highs have been pretty good, and the lows haven’t been as bad as they used to be.  Complete skateboards is just one of the many places that continue to benefit from this very popular sport.
