Yes, I know there are parts of this story, that seem just a bit childish and unnecessary.  Especially, for a professional athlete and a coach that have years of experience playing this game.  I think though, it all comes down to a question of what will players and coaches do to win.  In hindsight, it may seem like a big mistake for Minnesota to have gambled so much on one player.  But, we all know how often professional sports can be a big gamble.  There are franchise players out there, and Favre has been one in the past.  No dispute about that.
