Who Should Be The Eagles Quarterback This Season?

Quarterback positions can be tricky to keep filled, even at the best of times.  Even during the pre-season, one thing they’re good for is a little football news controversy. I’m sure there are some in the Philadelphia Eagles, that are more than content to Kevin Kolb as the starting quarterback for the Eagles.    Sure, Mickeal Vick has had some outstanding moments during the 2010 pre-season, but it’s important to keep the big picture in mind.  What with McNabb gone, it makes perfect sense to ensure that more than one of their major QB investments is worth the checks they’re cashing.   While Kolb has been adequate in his tenure with the Eagles, the coaching staff probably believes he’s got a bit more in him.

It makes perfect sense, give both Vick and Kolb playing time, but that’s not the same as switching to a new starting quarterback.  Giving Kolb adequate playing time early in the season is a good strategy.  It gives him the confidence that the staff believes in him, while still being keenly aware that Vick is staring over his shoulder at the starting job.  There’s nothing wrong with a little competitive motivation to help a guy get the job done.  I’m not usually into NFL football betting, but if I were I’d bet on Kolb to come into his own. And it’s not really just a case of giving the young kid his chance.  Kolb has the potential to be a franchise player for many years to come, considering he’s only 26.  If I were the staff, I’d want to know just how strong a potential he is.
