The United States at the 2010 FIFA World Cup

United States National Soccer Team coach Bob Bradley just announced his final 23-man roster in anticipation of the upcoming World Cup.  The tournament will be held in South Africa from June 11-July 11, 2010, and this marks the very first time that the World Cup will be held on the African continent.   Bradley’s final roster features few surprises, except for the fact that the only experienced National Team forward he has on the roster is 20-year old Jozy Altidore.  The other forwards are Edson Buddle, Herculez Gomez and Robbie Findley.  Brian Ching was the odd man out in this scenario, so he will not be making the journey to South Africa with the squad.

The opening match of the tournament is June 11 and it features host nation South Africa and Mexico, the United States’ rival from the CONCACAF confederation.  The US National Team kicks off its tournament against mighty England on Saturday June 12.  This game will be featured on the ABC television network live and in High Definition starting at 2:00 PM eastern time.  Their next match is Friday 6/18 against Slovenia and the final first round match is Wednesday 6/23 against Algeria.

While many US soccer fans considered this group draw one of the best-case scenarios, it is certainly not a straightforward task for the United States team by any means.  Having to play England the first match complicates matters a great deal, because assuming a loss against the heavily favored English team the US would have no margin for error the rest of the way.  This will put an enormous amount of pressure on the US team as they will need, at the very minimum, some combination of a win and a tie (4 total points) from their final two matches against Algeria and Slovenia in order to advance to the knockout stages.  That is certainly within the realm of possibility, as the US will feel they are the superior team in both those games, but you’d always rather avoid unnecessary pressure in a tournament of this magnitude.

After their success at the 2002 World Cup, and then the disappointment of the 2006 tournament, the US will want to show that they’ve progressed as a soccer playing nation these last four years.  It is essential that they qualify for at least the knockout stages for it to be considered a successful tournament.  The 2010 World Cup will hopefully be remembered as the tournament where the United States become a nation to be respected and even feared in major international soccer competitions.

Fishing for Trophy Pike

The Northern pike is a voracious gamefish that inhabits fresh and brackish waters and trophy pike fishing is exclusive to the Northern Hemisphere. Pike have been introduced into areas that it is not native too and because of its carnivorous nature has shown it to be a danger to the other populations of fish. As an afterthought game and fish departments have tried to eradicate them from some lakes, but sports anglers love chasing those trophy sized northern pike.

The Northern pike is greenish in color with dark spots and its overall shape is that of a torpedo much in keeping with its lightening speed. The pike lies motionless in wait for its prey and feeds on almost any fish and they exhibit a cannibalistic nature of eating the young of their own species. The small to medium sized pike can be found in the backwaters among the weed and lily pads and they feed on frogs, minnows, bugs and their own kind.

You won’t find the big boys in the weeds. They much prefer more open water where they can ambush their favorite food, the walleyes. You’ll find them off points, around islands, on shoals and at the mouths of rivers and streams. They like areas of slow moving water and prefer clear water to turbid.

The techniques of trophy pike fishing vary but, all in all, they are quite easy to catch as they will hit almost any lure. Many trophy pike are caught while fishing for walleye as the like to stay on the outer perimeter of their traveling prey. Pike will hit jigs and rapalas, but one of the favorite lures is daredevils. Many anglers will cast high in an effort to slap the water with their lures thus drawing the predator in. Big trophy pike will often hit a lure, leave and hit it again.

Sports Barstools And Where To Get Them

A lot of people keep collections, and these collections become an important part of their lives. There are even some people who are willing to spend large sums of money just to complete their collections. This holds true for people who like sports barstools. Sports barstools are just like regular bar stools in that they come in a variety of designs, styles, shapes and sizes. The main difference is they are designed with a specific sports team in mind.

If you’re looking for sports barstools that are high-quality and affordable, the auction website EBay is one of the best places to look. Millions of people visit this website every day, looking for a great deal on a particular product. Other places to look would be online classified ads such as Craigslist, and your local newspaper. Chances are, you’ll find an ad placed by someone in your area who is selling his or her sports bar stools. The advantage of purchasing directly from the website is, you can often get price discounts and special offers that are exclusive to the site. If you’d rather not make your purchase online, you can go to a local mall or department store. You can easily find sports bar stools, whether on a website or in a physical store. The only downside is there is no guarantee that you’ll find one that you like.

Buying sports barstools are a great way to root for your favorite team, whether you’re a hockey, baseball, basketball or football fan; even if you’re a fan of other sports, there is a sports bar stool for it. Sports bar stools sometimes even come painted with the team’s colors, and most of them feature the team logo on the seat cushion. Sports themed bar stools are widely available, and the only difficulty you’re going to run into when choosing one is the mind-bogglingly wide array of designs and styles to choose from. But if you’re rooting for a particular team, you should have no problems choosing the right one.

It’s All In The Game

I remember many years ago, when one of the youth groups I belonged to would run charity bingo’s to raise money for our youth activities.  They had quite a following of devotees that would show up every Wendesday night to play for hours and hours.  This was back in the day before all the non smoking regulations came into effect, and the hall would be just full of clouds of billowing smoke from all the folks madly dabbing their cards in hopes of the big win.  I have to wonder what that gang would have to say back then, about the future of online bingo sites?

I have a feeling they would think it was kind of crazy.  I think a big part of the attraction, was not only the game, but also the camaraderie of all their fellow gamers.  But, today I think bingo promotions are attracting a whole different breed of gaming fans.  There are quite literally dozens of sites where you can go and play these days, but the trick is finding one that works for you, and is fun for your style of play.  Many of them offer free trial sign up periods, so it makes sense to give a few a whirl before you get too committed to any one of them.  With all the different prize packages and sites available, it makes sense to try a few and see what appeals to you.

The Scouting Report on Vernon Gholston

The Vernon Gholston scouting report is filled with early ups paired with plenty of recent downs. The 6’4”, 264 giant from Detroit, Michigan, made a name for himself by starting every game at DE during his last two years with Ohio State. His last year in particular was superb, amassing 15.5 negative-yardage tackles, 14 of which were sacks. His Ohio State totals as a starter included 86 tackles, 30.5 negative-yardage tackles, and 22.5 sacks with one interception.

At the 2008 combine, Vernon Gholston posted a striking 4.67 during his 40-yard dash, tied for best at the bench press with 37 reps, while his 35 1/2” vertical and broad jump distance of 10’5” boasted of innate athleticism. His value increased with his ability to play in a 4-3 as a defensive end or as an outside linebacker in a 3-4. The New York Jets chose him sixth in the first round of the 2008 NFL Draft and initial forecasts pegged him as a starter. Gholston’s promise fizzled, however, as he has been relegated to mostly special teams play. Pundits are labeling him a bust, and a recent restructure to his deal is fueling rumors that the Jets will soon release him.

One of Gholston’s main deficiencies is his inability to get beneath tackles on his way to the quarterback. He also does not appear to have good control of his body. As plays unfold, he is unable to correct his routes or reverse momentum in time to complete his rushes. He shows too much hesitation and uncertainty, and because of it he has developed a penchant for getting blocked. He also shows weak tackling skills in run coverage, registering only a handful of negative-yardage tackles in two seasons. Gholston’s size often draws a double team, but he has yet to display the finer dynamics of breaking through offensive lines even in one-on-one situations. Until he does, he will continue seeing more time on the bench and may see his career in the NFL come to a quick end.

Flex Your Golf Muscles for a Better Game

Golf courses in Charlotte are scatterd with golfers of all levels.  The one thing they all have in common is  a need for physical flexibility.

Using the services of a chiropractor could be a good adjustment to your game

Many pro golfers  regularly use a chiropractor. Some golfers literally cannot play without the help of a chiropractor.

Shoulder, back, and neck pain can stop a golfer in his or her tracks. The services of a good chiropractor can be a game changer.

Dr. Travis Ruda is a chiropractor and golfer. He states that the golf swing is not a normal position for a healthy back.  A good swing creates tension in the spine. That tension enables you to hit the ball a greater distance.

Your body is literally being used as a catapult. The tension from your hip’s abrupt stop and your shoulders continuing to rotate  creates a power that is an awkward movement for your back. Many golfers end up with lower back problems.

Here are seven tips-

  • Before playing golf, stretch. Be sure to stretch your hamstrings and growing area.
  • Hold a club over your shoulders being sure to touch your shoulders then leaned left then right.
  • Stand in a position similar to starting your swing then bend to the right and left.
  • Behind your back and stretch your shoulder muscles by raising upward .
  • Take a half a dozen swings using your opposite hand. In other words if you are right-handed swing left-handed. This will help you stretch muscles you do not normally use.
  • If your neck muscles are tight stretch them gently.
  • Golfers elbow can be painful. A chiropractor can help you with an adjustment

Special orthotic shoe pads can improve your swing by improving your balance.

You can improve your flexibility with yoga or other stretching exercises. Anything that improves your flexibility can help improve your game.

A healthy spine may be the most important part of your golf game. The help of a good chiropractor is certainly worthwhile. If you play golf in the Carolina’s you likely have had a round of golf in Charlotte. Springfield Golf Club is a scenic and challenging course. You are invited to stretch your game at Springfield.
