We might finally get to the bottom of the Super Bowl XL conspiracy if John McCain wins the presidency. VP candidate Sarah Palin is a Seahawks fan.
And not just a casual Seahawks fan, folks–Palin’s a member of the Seahawkers, the team’s official fan club.
I spoke to Tom Spindler, President of the Mat-Su (Matanuska and Susitna Valleys) Seahawkers. “She joined about two or three years ago,” Tom told me. “Her husband Todd is the one who enrolled them.”
Tom told me that, in addition to gathering for Seahawks games at Tailgaters Sports Bar in Wasilla, the Mat-Su Seahawkers support youth sports in the area.
He said that he heard Palin doesn’t come to too many club events–(”she’s pretty busy, being the governor and all,” he said)–but she and hubby Todd did stop in last year to watch the Bears game. UPDATE: Tom comments below that I misunderstood him, and that only Tod was at the Bears game.
Bill Leavy, you’d better start funneling money to Obama, because a McCain win will, I’m sure, result in at least a very aggressive IRS audit.
UPDATE: Matt Ufford of With Leather points out that Palin already told a Pittsburgh columnist that she’s a STEELERS fan. What the hell!

Seth - Though I was not made aware you were doing an article, I am proud that people like the Palin’s are members of Mat-Su Sea Hawkers. These are community-minded people and positive supporters of many local youth sport activities, which is Mat-Su Sea Hawkers community mission.
I would like to clarify two points.
First, you quote me as saying, “He said that he heard Palin doesn’t come to too many club events–(”she’s pretty busy, being the governor and all,” he said)”. Seth, I believe I said that they had not been able to attend local club events or gatherings with the group, because of their remote work schedules and because of her job of being the Governor. Similar, yes, but “doesn’t come to too many club events” infers their partial active attendance, which to my knowledge has not happened thus far, for reason previously noted.
Second, you noted that I said, “–but she and hubby Todd did stop in last year to watch the Bears game.” Seth, when you asked if they attend game-day gatherings, I noted that Todd commented to me that “he” had stopped in at Tailgaters, during the 2007 Bears game, which was also when we were holding a fund-raising raffle. I did not say, “Sarah and hubby stopped in and watched the game.” To my understanding, Todd was alone on that occasion. Personally, I was not on hand for that gathering and fund-raising event. My family and I was in Seattle for the Bears game.
Regarding comments that Sarah likes or supports more than one team; entirely possible. However, I do not personally know. I know only of the family membership in Mat-Su Sea Hawkers and their positive support for local youth sport activities in our community. I know there are many football fans that champion more than one team; teams from both the NFC and AFC. I also know some fans are rabid one-team only fans. I say, to each their own.
Regards from Alaska,
Tom Spindler (aka - Tomahawker)
