Like former Husky TE Jerramy Stevens, Oklahoma State TE Brandon Pettigrew is big (6-6, 260) and fast (see video below).
SI calls Pettigrew the best NFL tight end prospect in ten years (or, about since Stevens came out). He was third on the Cowboys in catches last year, and proved his ability against top Big 12 defenses, getting eight catches against both Texas and Georgia.
But Pettigrew also exhibits some of Stevens’ less desirable qualities.
In January, just a few days after Pettigrew decided to return to OSU for his senior season, he was arrested and charged with felony assault for hitting a cop. Here’s how The Oklahoman reported it:
According to police documents, Pettigrew was given the opportunity to leave a fight between “10 to 15 people” that was in progress Sunday at 1:20 a.m. in the 2300 block of North Dryden. The police report states Pettigrew refused to leave the area and grew uncooperative. After being order to leave several times, Pettigrew allegedly cursed the officers and struck an officer in the chest.
Pettigrew ended up pleading down to a misdemeanor; he paid a fine and performed community service. Mike Gundy hasn’t disciplined Pettigrew, saying at the outset of the investigation that he’d allow the courts to do their thing. Sound familiar, Husky fans?
Pettigrew gave the standard-issue quotes about the situation, telling the Tulsa World “I’m not trying to get into trouble. I’m trying to keep my head clear and keep my head right. Make better decisions about everything. Stay out of trouble. Stay on the right path.” Etc, etc, etc. Let’s hope he does, less for his sake than for the sake of the Stillwater area. Just to be safe, though, the area’s nursing home residents should stay indoors.
Here’s one other biographical note on Pettigrew, which I submit without comment: “Has one brother, Reginald, and two sisters, Yi-Laundria and La’Tashwa.”
And here’s Pettigrew doing his football thing–check out the vicious stiff-arm on the Texas Tech defender.

I don’t know how much weight you can give to the assualt incident. It was, after all, reported by the Oklahoman.
