It is this time every year that snowboard and ski movies begin making their way around the globe: starting with wild premier parties, then out on tour, after time spent filming all the winter past and editing through the summer months. And with each year, the number of films put out by different companies grows. (Local film crew Funner Films is attempting to compile a list of all the snowboard movies ever made.)
But, after 20 years of putting out the most popular annual snowboard films, Mack Dawg Productions is stepping away from producing their annual film—and thus away from the market flood—concluding with this year’s Double Decade. Mike McEntire told Transworld SNOWboarding that they’ll be pursing other projects, including a documentary on local Washington legend and the original pro snowboarder-turned-company owner, Peter Line.
Everyone should be stoked about this about this documentary. This isn’t going to be a “Shaun White: The American Boy, sponsored by Target” presentation.
Peter Line was/is still a larger than life character. He’s a six-time Winter X Games medalist. He shelled out a large bag of tricks in the late ‘80s, showering them over the NW hills of Crystal and Snoqualmie. In 1996, he made his mark in the larger snowboard industry when he co-founded Forum Snowboards, and then later the Foursquare company, with Raul Reis of Four Star Distribution and Special Blend. Mike “Mack Dawg” Entire also came on board and documented the original Forum crew snowboarders, the “Forum eight.”
The “Life and Times of Peter Line” (or whatever it will be called) will shine the camera light back into those earlier days of the mist and mayhem. Not quite the Whiskey videos, not quite a Craig Kelly tribute, but I’m hoping Mack Dawg, in all their quality craftsmanship, can wrap up Line in a nice, easy to hold, but still eccentric package. Because the guy’s wild, influential and part of snowboarding’s history. No word yet on when we’ll get to see it.
“I tried to help with the X Games a little while back by giving them feedback and being an interviewer, but they fired me. I was too weird. A lot of the head X dudes are cool, though, they thought I was funny. I guess it was some super head douchebag that hated me. Whatever, dude, go be normal.”—your neighbor Mr. Peter Line, in a Transworld Snow interview
