The Mariners lost again, going down so quickly that those of us who’d gathered in the Hit it Here cafe to watch the Stanley Cup had to leave just before the winning goal. Yet another indignity from the 2008 season. Bucky Jacobsen was smart–he left early. The M’s are 21-37, 16.5 GB of the Angels. Of the 14 teams in the American League, they are 13th in batting and 13th in pitching. Only the Rockies have a worse record.
Richie Sexson is trying out a new wide stance, writes Geoff Baker. McLaren told reporters that Sexson’s extended stay in the bench had nothing to do with the supposed Cairo “spark,” but rather that they wanted to give Sexson time to work on the new stance before trying it in a game.
A local lawyer tells Greg Johns he can’t believe the Sonics lawsuit might go to trial: “You’d think the NBA would pull both sides into a room, knock their heads together and say, ‘Let’s get this resolved,’ because it will be a bloodbath in that courtroom…once that fistfight erupts in court, it’s like a bar where eventually it spills out into the street. You’d think somebody would want to stop this before it goes that far.”
Forget that stuff about Bell Prep’s Abdul Gaddy and Avery Bradley being a package deal. Gaddy tells the P-I’s Jon Naito: “What was said before got mixed up. They asked if I would like to play with (Bradley) in college, and I said that would be cool. But he’s going to sit down and do what’s best for him, and I’ll do the same. If it ends up we’re on the same page, that would be great.”
Russell Westbrook, DJ Augustin, Joe Alexander, and Brandon Rush are among the players the Blazers plan to work out in Tualatin before the draft.
Chad Ford says the Sonics are shopping their pick.
Remember that whole Ray Allen/Kobe feud? Well, now it’s news again. SupersonicSoul remembers.
Hawks minicamp is underway, and Seahawks Addicts has a nice wrapup of articles in the local papers.
Here’s ex-Husky Larry Tripplett on what happened when he told his wife Natasha about getting an offer from the Seahawks: “She was like, ‘You know we’ve got to go there,’ Tripplett said, noting that was pretty much the end of the discussion. “Hey, keep momma happy and the whole house is happy.” This from TNT’s Dave Boling.

Tanisha Wright has been to the Storm what Richie Sexson is to the M’s or Shaun Alexander was to the Hawks–the player fans love to hate. But this season, she’s playing much better, and the fans are starting to notice. From Chasing the Title: “Whatever has happened between Tanisha Wright, Coach Agler and the team is fantastic. She is playing the best, most consistent stint of WNBA basketball of her career. Keep it up T, you are re-earning the Tenacious Tanisha nickname I gave you in your rookie season.”
The Times named O’Dea’s Johri Fogerson its boys sports star of the year, and Jackson’s Kristi Kingma won the award for the girls.
