“To create a world class environment, we will encourage fans to bring horns, banners, streamers and noisemakers.” — Vulcan Sports & Entertainment CEO Tod Leiweke.
When I went to that Mexico/China game last week I found myself hoping against hope that somehow, some way, the Sounders would be able to replicate the atmosphere–the unceasing horn-blowing, the chants…just, in general, the noise.
They’re gonna try. The Sounders will let you bring your horns and your chants. You can even sit with your friends…or none of the above. “The team has created a unique site to help fans find their ideal seat location based on personal interests such
as group affiliations, teammates from the soccer leagues they play in, or the desire to sing, chant and stand during matches.”
Beautiful. Tickets are from $16-$75, which makes season tickets for an 18-game schedule $288-$1350. Here’s the seating chart [pdf].
This is not to say that two hours of unceasing noise is better than the aural atmosphere in football, where it gets extremely loud before certain plays, and then quiet in-between, or the aural atmosphere in baseball, which is pretty much quiet all the time so you can talk. The Sounders atmosphere ought to be different–not better, just different. Variety is the spice of life, no?
If you’ve already put down a deposit for season tickets, you’ll get an email this week. If you haven’t, call 877-MLS-GOAL.
335 days until Opening Day. Suh-weet!
